GOTEC Mission

The mission of the Global Online Teacher Education Center (GOTEC) is to advance research and pedagogy in online teacher education and professional development around the world that is inclusive, accessible, and culturally and linguistically responsive and sustaining. GOTEC’s work further strengthens the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) as a global leader in teacher preparation by exploring innovations in teaching and learning to advance the field of teacher education in online environments.

GOTEC Vision

Our vision is to advance research and pedagogy in online teacher education and professional development through a global community of practice of educators by leveraging the expertise of CEHD faculty and strategic partnerships across and beyond Mason. GOTEC brings together researchers, educators, and university students committed to advancing its mission through two strands of effort: research and outreach. Our research strand is focused on multiple areas of inquiry involving online teacher education and development. It will lead the field in global investigations by studying aspects of accessibility and cultural and linguistic diversity that affect research and scholarship. We are also committed to outreach activities through strategic partnerships with government, business, and community partners. Our portfolio includes externally funded projects geared towards providing professional development for educators in all subject areas, across the lifespan (PK-adult), and in the US and around the world. Our outreach utilizes research-based practices for effective online teaching and learning to provide educators with quality professional development on a diverse range of topics that reflect CEHD faculty expertise combined with creative and scholarly pursuits.
